Need A Sheath For My CS Trail Hawk

Got some more specifics?

What material would you like? Leather, nylon, kydex?

Carry types, low, mid, high ride? Tek Lok?

It being a holiday weekend the response might be slow, but I betcha someone can help you out. :)

Where can I get one, if possible?

Welcome Shaolin! If I may ask, What part of Utah are you from?

Some more information would help is help you better. I think Leatherman pretty well covered the questions. :) Let us know and I'm sure someone around here can do it for you.

Probably the cheapest material, lol

Will not be carrying it, will be used for car camping duties (chopping wood, throwing) not really sure about other uses at this time. Just really want to protect the blade at this time. Thanks.

Hi wildmanh,

I'm in Layton.

Cheapest would be duct tape and cardboard. And that's not necessarily a bad thing, if you're gonna leave it in the car most of the time.

That would probably work, and I've actually done it before. Though I do prefer leather to cardboard. ;)

Shaolin, There's a Tandy Leather In Roy and Mapquest says it's only about 12 minutes north of Layton. If you wanted to try making a Slip cover your self, You could get everything you needed at that Tandy.

If all you need is a Slip cover or basic sheath I'm sure someone on the forum that has a hawk could do it. I'd be willing to do it for cheap if I could get my hands on a hawk so I could do proper fitting and measuring and such.

Hi Heber,

I would be willing to meet up with ya. I can bring my hawk along so you can get measurement's for the sheath.

My fist sheath ever was one for my H&B spike hawk I got in a trade. You can even bypass the stitching and just use rivets like I did. Here are some pics if you'd like to use them...

Good luck to you and take care.

I got your email and will be responding soon. :)

Well, thanks to wildmanh, my hawk has a very nice sheath now. Heber did an awesome job, took a lot of detail to the final product. If anyone in the SLC area is looking to have some leather work done, Heber is you man, highly recommended. Thanks again Heber.

How about a photo?

I'm heading to the Tandy Leather store later on. They're having a half-price sale this month.

Thanks John! Nice working with you, glad you like the sheath. Please let me know how it holds up on your upcoming trip. :) Shaolin is Great to work with and nice to talk to.

DutchV, I took some pictures of the sheath, just need to resize and post them. Should be able to do that after breakfast. That half off sale at Tandy is nice. I ordered a 14 squarefoot double shoulder yesterday from them at half off. Should be here early next week. The Double shoulder on sale right now isn't their best shoulder, but it's still pretty descent and at the sale price It's way nice. This is the second Double shoulder I've ordered on sale (the last sale I got it at was 4 years ago). I find that some of the rough grain and range marks add some nice charactor to certain sheaths. :)

Here are the pictures of the sheath I made for Shaolin's CS Hawk.

I like that sheath. It's neat, with clean lines.

I've got a Trailhawk, and will be making a sheath soon. Made a trip to my local Tandy today, and got a bunch of supplies. A single shoulder of 6 - 7 oz. for $20 seems like a great place to start.

A great place to start indeed. But certainly not where you'll finish :D. You'll be hooked soon enough and on to other projects. Good luck to you and post pics.

DutchV good luck making the sheath. Bet you'll have a great time doing it. How do you plan on punching the holes in the leather for threading? I use a 5/16" drill bit in my drill press and it works pretty good. I place a piece of wood under the leather when drilling and it turns out pretty good. Gives me very consistant holes.

Take it slow, make a patern, measure twice, cut once.... Cut the leather a little larger then you need so you can sand the edges down so they look nice. Sanding is really easy with a belt sander and 220 or 320 grit belts. :) I cut out the leather, stitch and polish by hand, the rest of it, I use power tools. Makes things really easy. Please post pictures when you're done!
