I have a Delta Z lockback and would like Thumbstud on the knife and I would probably start carrying it. I thought about just getting one of these Flick-its and attaching that, however a real thumbstud would be prefered. The blade is a 3.5" Stainless Raindrop Damascus Steel Blade (AEB-L/304). If that means anything to you. Let me know what you guys think. If it would be an easy chore and what I would be looking to pay. Thanks

Think you will have better luck in Shop Talk. Those makers can do anything over there.

Problem with putting thumb bobs in a factory blade is you have to use carbide bits to drill the holes. Most thumbs use 2-56 screws which use a #43 drill bit and they are not cheap and are very fragile.
Plus most knife makers are busy enough dealing with our own knives that we don't usually care to work on other knives.
Now if you lived close by and called one day and said hey Mike, can you drill a hole in this blade for me? And then came by the shop it wouldn't be a problem, but when you start gettin into messin with packing it up and going to the post office it eats up some time and such.
Sorry, just tryin to tell ya how things are.

Call Barry Jones. He's crazy! :p Seriously, he lives in VA, don't know how far from you though.....It would behoove you to show up with a carbide drill bit the right size so you don't wear out your welcome if you get my drift. Kinda like bringing a bottle of wine to a party.

Unfortunately I could have done it for you but I just pulled up the knife picture on Delta's site. All my folder experience has been with folders that are screwed together. If I can't unscrew the knife I can't get at the blade. This one looks pinned together and I'm not familiar with working pinned knives. Using carbide drills on hardened metal isn't a problem. Alot of makers play and work with 6K and 6BH which requires carbide anyway. Also if you want threads in hardened metal that weren't previously there, you can drill a 1/8" hole and inset an 1/8" Ti rod and drill and tap that the Ti rod. This way you could attach a thumbstud using threads. Alot of the thumbstubs I have used have come from Darrel Raplh. You can get his products at knifekits.com. There service and products are first class! The thumbstuds I use require a 3/16th thru hole and you use a small threaded screw to hold both ambi thumb studs in place. The following URL shows a picture if your interested.

Thanks for all the responses guys!! After much thought, I think I am just going to leave this one as is. I am not sure if there is enough room on the blade clearance for the bob and the bolsters on this thing are huge and to modify it would be a pain, add the fact that the knife is put together with pins, not screws makes the chore even harder. Thanks though and keep grinding gentlemen:)
