Need a Traditional knife suggestion!

Are you looking for a lockback or are you open to slipjoints?
For single joint lockbacks in that size and price range I'd recommend checking out the case copperlock/mini copperlock.

Either is good looking to broaden my horizons when it comes to tradition this knife definitely turned me away from nontraditional knives.

I have a Grohmann fixed, the Trout & Bird and I've always liked it, the folding version strikes me as an interesting knife too so congrats on your new addition. You should take some time studying the GEC website with its list of patterns then check though their dealers to see very good pix of the actual models in stock.

I would suggest a GEC 83 lock back, a smaller knife 3 /8" closed but offering a lot of very decent Drop-Point blade or a Clip version too. Other locking Traditionals I'd recommend are the GEC 92 Wall Street or Queen Cutlery's No.6 Teardrop liner lock in D2 a big favourite of mine.

Thanks, Will

GEC 72s are still available, and the 74s are rolling out now. Both are around 3 3/4" closed and around $100.

Those Case Tony Bose sway back gents in CV get my blood pumping for around 80 bucks. I'd be all one if I didn't have an old SBJ.

Many options. Study a while. If there is a retailer near you, get some handling time.

Just to add to whats been said. You might check out a Buck 302 or 110. Also, check out a Case single blade sow belly.

The drop point Russlocks are sweet, but a little smaller. When I got here, I liked 4" closed knives (and still do). Hanging out, I learned from Carl "it doesn't have to be big, just sharp." Today, I almost always have a Peanut on me.

Welcome to The Porch! Enjoy the quest to find the perfect knife for you.

Thanks for all the help definitely have some knives to study. I wish I had somewhere local to handle all of them however I live in Hawaii and there is absolutely no knife shops or dealers.

The GEC 72 is my favorite in this size and price range. Smooth opening and closing, solid lock-up.

Great suggestions have been made already! Since you are just dipping your toes into the traditional scene I think a buck 110/112 (112 is the smaller version) is the best place to start. However, the GEC 72 is a terrific knife also.

Welcome!!

Appreciate all the help! Is there a good place to look to purchase something like a GEC 72 doesn't seem to be on the GEC website or is it something to just keep an eye on the forum ads?

Generally, the discussion of where to buy isn't discussed here. I'd look for the vendors who are site sponsors.

There's a list of GEC dealers on their website.
Here's a link to BladeForums Dealer members, Paid-Dealer-Members-List
You can refer to a paying BF dealer, although we try and keep the discussion forums about the knives and not where to buy them.
The Exchange is a good place to watch.

All other recommendations need to be made outside this forum. Links or references to dealers that aren't paid dealer members are not allowed in the discussion threads.

Good luck!

Be sure to check out A.G. Russell's site, lots to choose from, but also a very nice resource for information on traditional knives, blade shapes, and materials. Plus for $100 or less, you might be able to pick up several of his personal brand knives, or be convinced to spend another $100. :D Works that way sometimes. Just take your time. I'll use a 12" ruler at times just to get a real world feel for length.
Thanks, Neal

Go to the Great Eastern cutlery site . Check out their dealer list .
Collector Knives , Knives Ship Free , and GP Knives are all paying dealers and have at least 1 of the 72's on hand just now . While there , also check out for 73's or 74's

They are all 3 great knives to have and are very comfortable in hand .
