Need a way to keep my tablet pen safe.

Why do electronics have to be so cheap and fagile :grumpy:? I've been having to replace the pen for my computer's tablet quite frequently, and these things cost $25 a piece and it's getting rather expensive to replace them, I've broken four that I've had to pay for(for some reference, the tablet cost me around $100 so I've spent double the cost on it already), and I broke two or three when it was still under waranty. I tried carrying it in a glassses case, no good, my last one got obliterated while in one. I was carrying it in my pocket but I sat on it and 200lbs of dead weight pulverized it :p. I could go into the circumstances of how the others broke, but you get the picture, the pens for my tablet break easier than a $20 cell phone.

So, to the point, I'm looking for something small to cary the pen for my tablet in so it will not go kaboom. I basically need an armored shell that will keep it safe and won't let it rattle around too much. I was thinking about a cigar case, but I don't know if that'll work. The pen is just a hair under 6" and about 3/8" in diameter. Can anyone think of a $10-$20 way of preventing this from happening anymore? It's getting old.

How about using a cigar tube, or a cigar case? Both are designed to protect the fragile cigars. Both go into pockets, pouches, etc. Might just work.

Hop down to the hardware store and pick up some pipe and fittings of appropriate diameter. PVC should offer good, lightweight protection; galvanized steel should be bomb-proof.

How about a case for darts? One set I have came in a decent looking, hinged along the long edge hard plastic case.

and maybe put a soft lining in the PVC pipe or steel pipe idea, so if its a wider diameter than 3/8", it won't rattle, and if you drop it, maybe absorb the shock a bit better.

Cigar tube was my first thought as well. Look thru the local Home Depot, Targets, Walmarts, etc and look for an inexpensive flashlight pen or thin flashlight and gut the thing, use the aluminum housing as your case. Some with a few AA or AAA batts might work.

For example...

Im not sure if your talking about those thin stylus
things that come with some pda's,
but they do sell like a regular ballpoint pen with
that nylon tip stylus, those seem much stronger
and also have the clip, like a regular pen.

also found this link, how to make your own

looks simple.

Not really what I'm talking about. I have a drawing tablet for my computer. This is actually the one that I have (except mine's black):

It has no built in storage for the pen, and seing as how the pen cheap plastic, and not built terrible well, it breaks. So it's actually the size of a real pen, but the tablet doesn't work like a touch screen, I looked at the last one I decimated, there's actually some chips and switches in these things. It actually kind of looked like a tiny radio but without a battery or cord. I don't know how it works but I want it to keep doing it.

How about those KeepToGo plastic tubes with screw top lid? Or I think countycomm calls them tube vaults?

How about supergluing a couple velcro "straps" to the side of your tablet thingy and then just strapping the pen to it when not using it?
