Hi-

OK, am ready to try my first (small) sheath. Now where can I buy a 6"x6" square to work with??? :( All the sources I have found here are for 25 sq. ft. pieces (Tandy, W&C, etc.). Maybe one day, but for now I just want to try my hand at a single small project and see if sheath making is for me. Any reco's would be greatly appreciated. From what I've read here, I assume im looking for 8-9oz. double shoulder.

Thanks for thinking it over!

Go to a saddle shop, lether store shoe shop and ask if the jhave a remenant they can sell you. Also Tandy's can hook you up for some scrap pieces...

You can get 1 or 2 square ft pieces from Jantz supply. It is a small quantity but at $10 a sq. ft. it's pretty spendy. If your planning to keep at it even if it's a year before you do another project you are probably better to get a single shoulder from Tandy.

just my .02

I walked into my local Tandy store just as they were putting away the weekly UPS shipment, and they had a couple large boxes marked "scrap"...so I got the first look and bought 5 lbs. of 8-10oz for about $15....I'm talking about 10 pieces or so, big enough to make sheaths with.......so just go there and ask.
There's boxes under the tables full of scraps!!
