I purchased a tulip thumb stud from an online seller along with some mosaic rod and want to use it to make a replacement for my knife. I tried making one using some 1200lb strength epoxy to set the mosaic but it came apart while I was shaping the mosaic. What is the proper adhesive I should use and does anyone have any tutorials or suggestions to help me through the project?

Thank you!

Tom

How did you prepare the surfaces to be glued? Did you make sure you mixed the two part epoxy completely? What was the curing temperature and time?

Try 3M DP-420. Make sure you read the data sheet and surface preparation instructions.

Surface prep is along the lines of sanding the surfaces with 100ish grit sand paper and then wiping (multiple times) with acetone or IPA+water saturated, lint free, fabric.

If you are mixing by hand on a flat surface using a mixing stick stir the epoxy for a good 5minutes.

I have not looked at the datasheet but I have seen curing times of 1.5hrs at 80c and then .5hrs cool down on youtube with good results.
