need advice - EDC that locks closed

An easy fix would be to get the mini-griptilian with the opening hole. It'll have the handle ergos you're familiar with (same as the mini-Ritter), and there's nothing on the blade to catch. That should most likely address your problem with as few compromises as possible.

Keep in mind, 440C did "just fine" for awhile. It's great that we have had all these nice steels to play with in the last ten years, but they're nice and expensive. 440C is cheap and does well enough for most.

I don't know of any Axis-lock knife that locks close, but here are a few that do lock closed:

CRKT BladeLock (and BladeLock II)
Benchmade Bali-songs
Kershaw/Ken Onion Leek, and Scallion

Good luck,
Allen.

I think most assisted openers from Kershaw and SOG can lock closed. I have a Scallion and Twitch that both lock closed.

Might be too small for you, but the Benchmite with its levitator lock, locks closed

Some of my favorite carry knives are 440C.

Get ya a Chive by Kershaw or a Scallion. Both lock closed and are assisted opening.

Most of the autos I have are locked closed until you push the button.

If you carry a folding knife in a sheath it is effectively locked closed and there are several pocket carry sheaths that are quite nice out there. You could also go with the conventional belt sheath.

The Lone Wolf Paul knives would be something to look at.

They would not make a good extreme duty edc (that is not what they are made for) but for a medium to light duty folder requiring locking open and closed they should be considered.

They are also good in areas where very, very young kids (toddlers) might get there hands on them.

These aren't axis models (I'm not aware of any that lock closed) but they are assisted openers with locks that come with ATS34 blades...
