With all of the various styles and brands of knives out there, not to mention the cheap knives that come across as superior, I was hoping you folks could offer some advice.

I'm looking for a blackened, fix blade knife with a tanto style tip. A thin profile with has a sheath that could be strapped to the lower leg, one which you wouldn't have to spend ten minutes fiddling with to get the blade out. A skeletal handle for the lighter weight would be nice, though not a requirement. One think I am wanting, however, is quality steel. I don't mind spending in upwards of $100 if not a bit more for a blade that will take and hold a good edge, and a black treatment that won't rub off after a few cuts.

You are looking for a Cold Steel Kobun in Carbon V. It has a Kydex sheath and fits all the other requirements you stated.

Likely a CS Recon Tanto in Carbon V would be fine, but you might consider the X-42 Recondo because I suspect the X42 is thinner than the CS Recon Tanto. There could be a chance that the sheath of the X-42 would also be thinner and better satistfy your requirement.
