I will soon be in possession of two mint Desert NO's. The one I presently have is a safe queen, but it's heft and balance just beg to be used so I bought another one. I am going to make one of them a user, assuming that my daughter's situation improves to the point that I can spend some time outdoors again. The question is, which one?

One has the tan raptor pattern scales. The one I currently have has tan scales with the familiar cross-hatched checkering pattern. I have seen at least one posting claiming that this second scale pattern was a one of a kind factory accident, but I have also seen photos of another one with the same scales so I know mine isn't the only one.

So, is one rarer than the other, thus being doomed to become the safe queen while the other one has all the fun?

You suck Mike! I was so close to doing the same thing with Chuck's NO!:p

Mine is the quilted version also but if I had a raptor scale model as well I would make it my user. That pattern has awesome traction baby!
Use the one that feels more comfortable to you:D

If you were to sell one down the road I don't think the handle is going to matter. Heck, there are only 14 of them anyway!

Congrats again!

Hi Mike,
I have one of the 14 and it has the quilted scales.Mine also feels good and begs to be used,I can't though. It just sits in a case, most of my knives do get used so this isn't so bad.

Well, the answer is clear to me. Buy yourself another one, and whichever handle pattern you have 2 of make on of those the user and have one of each handle pattern put away. I feel like Dr. Phil. "Hmmm..so you have a knife problem?..How that workin' for you?":p

OK... Are we talking about some of these 14 Military Overruns

If so, I was lucky enough to get three of them. Two of them came with the tan quilted scales so I sent them back to the shop to be redone with the tan raptor pattern scales. I like the raptor scales much more so for me it was an easy choice to send them back. I'm not sure how many went out with tan quilted scales and how many with tan raptor pattern scales.
