My son in law is a police officer in TN. My daughter said he wants a new knife for work. Should have some serrations for cutting seat belts and probably assisted opening. Is there anything under 100 bucks that you can suggest?

I'm a full-time cop and I prefer spydercos on duty. I've used about everything under the sun on duty and spydies seem to work the best! With uniform pants the lighter knives are more comfortable on a 12-14 hr shift.

I like the Endura 4. I carry an endura on each side, and a delica 4 in my cargo pocket. The Endura works amazing on seatbelts. I also prefer plain edge not serrations. I've found that the plain edge actually seems to have a larger range of emergency uses. I don't carry anything serrated.

the spydie holes work great with gloves too. I carried a couple ZT's for awhile but they were real heavy for the uniform pants and fell out a couple times, and they get real beat up cause yer always bumping into stuff and they were pretty pricey to get so beat up. My benchmade 710, and griptilian weren't too bad on duty either if u prefer thumb studs but still a little pricey to get beat up alot. (at least on my salary) hope this helps, don't know whats best just telling ya what I do. Good luck.

I've been a LEO for over 14 years and agree with Nakk77. I don't carry anything serrated either. I'm not sure where all this stuff about cops needing serrated blades started but the vast - and I mean vast - majority of guys I work with all prefer plain bladed knives.

I'm a Benchmade guy myself but you can't go wrong with Spyderco either. If you aren't absolutely set on the $100 limit, you can probably hunt around and find him a pretty nice BM 710 or 940 for another $20 or $30 bucks.

Good luck. . . .

A ZT 0350 would be my choice.

thats my vote too. now i'm not a cop of any description but for 100 bucks you could have quite the knife with or without the serration.

mine was $130 Canadian but thats because it has the satin finish and such

I think the cold steel recon 1 could be a good choice, it's a big knfie but pretty light weight, i've been using mine for a while, looks like it can take some abuse. I just received my kershaw boa( not the baby boa) and it's also pretty good, for around $80 you get S30V steel, speedsafe assisted opening, and a beautiful blade, but as a ploice officer, the alumium handel may be a problem...

How about the American Lawman? While it isn't assisted opening, it's a heavy duty knife which can easily be handled with or without gloves.

FWIW, I'm in agreement on the plain vs serrations. A good sharp plain edge knife will cut through things just as easily as a serrated edge.

Serrated edges will cut long after the plain edge has gone dull. Unless he's going to sharpen the knife regularly himself, serrations will keep him going longer. A small serrated blade like a Delica or Native would make a good backup to an Endura.

You can get Benchmade 710D2 for 110$ , and in my opinion , it is the best knife you can get at this price level

Good, point...I usually make assumptions because all of my buddies in LE are also knife nuts. One just picked up a Spyderco Warrior. YOWZA!!

Where is doing LE, in Afghanistan? :D

He's one of those guys who's preparing for the day the zombie ninjas show up in their black helicopters...

Besides, I had to mention the Warrior in this thread to adhere to the "Four different model Spydercos in each suggestion thread" rule on Blade Forums!

:p ;)

If you're going after ninjas, you need finesse, not brute force. I'll bring my new carbon fiber Shabaria ...
