I am planning a family vacation to Walt Disney World this summer and having been before I already know that there are a lot of rides with water and you get soaked. So I need a small folder that can take all day of being wet and not rust. The only thing that I have now that might be able to take this is a Spyderco Delica with G-2 steel. Last time I took my Sebenza and didn't think about it rusting and left it in my wet pocket all day and some small rust spots formed. I got all of them off after I got home but man was I scared that they weren't going to come off. Anyway can you recommend a folder in the Delica size range that would be good for this kind of thing. Thanks.

PS I don't like blades with black coatings.

Gerber Ez-Out or LST, I'd look for a folder with a 440 steel blade(440C being the best).
IMHO 440 handles salt water very well, and the folders listed are pretty cheap. May be just use the Delica, G-2 seems to handle water very well also:).

HTH:D!!

I remember a thread post 9/11 tat said Disneyland was a knife-free zone. Carrying knives into the park was a no-no. Check with Disneyland first before taking a knife into the park.

anything bigger than a chive may find you in "deep-poop-world" They are very particular now about anything that even looks like a knife.............wolf

For Disneyland/Disneyworld, almost any stainless should be enough because you will be able to clean it without too long a wait.
But if you really want to be sure, there are some that hold up under adverse conditions, and I use them when sea kayaking or canoeing. A titanium folder, like the old benchmades, or a talonite or stellite folder. The latter can be expensive, obviously, but they won't rust and really hold an edge.

V-nox Secretary. It won't rust and you just might get away wit carrying it. Even if it gets confiscated, you're not out a bunch of money.

Anything will rust, but the advise on Stainless is good. Also, whatever you take, polish it with auto wax. Carnuba is very hard and resist wear very well. It will provide protection. You can even push some wax inside a folder and buff it out with thin cardboard.

BTW: Carnuba automobile wax is better for your wood furniture than that spray junk they sell in the grocery store. It is very hard so be prepared to use some elbow grease to buff it out. For an easier buff, use bees wax. It is also very good.

If you get any rust, use stainless buff. It is made for felt wheels on grinders. However, you can shave some off the stick with a knife, mix it with oil or wax, and then use soft leather or cloth rag to polish your knife. Be sure to use stainless buff for stainless or high carbon steel. Jewelers, emory, etc. will not work.

Not everything will rust. T-N-T from Mayo, a little pricy, but worth the money.

Seems like your Delica would be ideal. If you want an extra margin of rust protection, you could coat the blade with car wax or your favorite inhibitor as suggested above.

If you want to buy something for use on just one wet occasion, why not take advantage of the fact that some of the most rust-resistant stainless steels are also the most economical. You can get a Kershaw Vapor or Vapor II for $25-30 made of 410 and AUS-6A. They are smooth, tight frame locks and come in similar sizes to the Sebenza you are used to.

Good luck, and enjoy Splash Mountain.

Thanks for all the replies. I didn't even think about the fact that I might not be able to take a knife now because of the new tightened security. I guess I will have to call them before I go just to make sure because its a long walk back to the car if you get all the way up to the front of the line and they say that you can't have a knife. Keep the good suggestions coming.

Lurker, I will enjoy Splash Mountain. It is my favorite ride that they have:D.

Went to Six Flags Great America during the summer, and I'm pretty sure they did not allow knives, probably not even smaller pocket knives. They also searched people's bags and scanned people with hand held metal detectors I think. If it is allowed, you might consider something in 420HC, or AUS-6 because of the lower carbon content, but make sure its not bead blasted, because bead blast will trap moisture in the surface and cause staining/rusting.

For something you had to swim with, anything Talonite is a good choice - my next choice would be something like a Mission MPF (if you are into that kind of thing), and finally, something G10/FRN and CPM440V.

It's a shame you'll never get it past the door though, Disney, like most networks these days is completely full of sh!t and trying to bring any knife in is likely to get you some major headarches, next time you wanna swim with a knife - I suggest you goto a place where REAL PEOPLE work, not Disney's Communist Minions.

i've said it once and i'll say it again:
EVERYTHING'S GONE TO CRAP SINCE WALT DIED!
