Members,

I am in the market to purchase a new edc folding knife. I just recently sold my Benchmade/Emerson 970. I am looking for a production knife that is built like a tank. Here are the specs I am looking at: It needs to be at least 3/16" thick, over 3" long (blade), with very thick liners (I don't care if it is titanium or steel). Weight is not a concern. I prefer thick micarta or G-10 for scales with either a black coating or bead blasted blade. I prefer to have a spearpoint blade for ease of sharpening in the field. Lastly, it has to be built like a tank and cost less than $200.

I was looking at a Strider AR, but it was too expensive. I want a very good knife that can take a beating and is easy to sharpen.

Suggestions????

You are going to have raise your price range a bit to get into something like that.

Give me an idea of what is out there in a production piece, regardless of price. If it is worth it, then I will consider buying it. Thanks

Just FYI, I am a BIG Grayman fan, so I don't care if the knife is ugly.

I'd say wait for the HEST folder or ZT550...

Get yourself a cold steel tri-ad knife to hold you over...

Extreme Ratio RAO comes to mind right away.

The Strider AR is another one, there are a few others, but I can't recall them right now.

Not too many folders with blades that thick out there.

None of them are going to be cheap.

The discontinued Ontario Retribution 1 or 2?

Hope you've got big pockets!

Great looking knife, but too bright and it does not have a pocket clip. I think I am going to put a wanted ad for a used Strider AR. I have not seen any other knife, other than a MOD Crucible (the original ones not the Blackhawk versions) that fits the bill yet.

The ZT0200 is worth taking a look at. Though it doesn't have a .187" thick blade, it is .157" thick. The steel liners are ~.080" thick, with sculpted G-10 handles.

Several ZTs would seem to fit that criteria.

Might want to look at the Hogue EX01 also.

+1 on the ZT 0200 or 0300 series. (And a few other ZT models.)
They are going to be about as stout as you're going to get at under $200.

If the price can really be extended, check out Crusader Forge.
In a word, they are hellacious, but they start in the $500 range. Link.

I'll chime in on the ZT 0300 series as well. Only folders I've liked so much I bought two.

My Lone Wolf Harsey T-3 is within the range your looking for but it has been discontinued for a good while now.

Just not much out there in that blade thickness range.

You just described the Benchmade 710-1, DLC black bladed, M390 that I got from Roger for less than $200. It is not exactly a spear point, but is straight forward to sharpen.

How about a Buck Strider 880 (on the right) ? Out of production, but you can find one around $100.
