need advice on Electronics Learning Kits

Looking for suggestions/advice on Electronics Learning Labs/Kits for a 10 year old who wants to learn.

I know Radioshack has some but I am wondering if there are any better ones out there for a reasonable price and more features.

Any suggestions/ideas.
 
Some electronic hobby sites have some. IMO avoid the ones with the white "bread board" in the center where you have to jam the wires of the components in the board to make the circuts. Much easier when you're a kid just to make the circuts with the wires and springs. Unfortunately most have the bread boards nowadays.

If it where my kid, I'd consider looking on ebay for the older Radio Shack 150 in one kit in a wooden box, all springs and wires, everything facing up toward the user. Possibly the best one they made.
