Need advice on first "expensive" folder

I have finally gotten permission from my wife to buy an upper end folder. I am currently debating between 4 knives:

Large Sebenza with wood inlays
Terzoula "American Made series"
Tighe "My Tighe"
Buck Mayo titanium

Unfortunately I have only handled a couple of these, and I can't buy them all (without being exhiled to sleeping on the couch indefinately) Any experience with these knives/designers would be appreciated. I have a small sebenza, and like most on here I love it, but I have always liked the larger model better.

I had a Buck Mayo, it was nice, but I found it didn't measure up against a sebenza. I'd go for the wood inlay sebenza.

if you get a sebenza....I would out of those choices....make sure you look at all the different inlays and get the 1 you absolutely love, otherwise you will be buying more than 1 :D

One word of advice:

SEBENZA

For the money it is a great knife and a pleasure to use.

It may not be 100% relevant to this thread but some very interesting comments on a similar subject can be found

The knives that you have provided to choose from are a range of styles and sizes, so let me be the first to ask what the intended usage for this knife will be. :)

Sebenza is always a good choice, but since you already have one maybe a nice custom would be better. Check out:

See what they have. I purchased a JW Smith folder from True North and I'm absolutly in love with it. Superb fit and finish and I just love the design (large evolution recurve liner lock) I liked it so much that I already have my second JW Smith inbound, my current one is now my EDC.

Other then that, I think the Buck/Mayo is outclassed by the competition here and I would skip over the Terzuola American Made series and look into getting a real Terzuola used instead. A number of them can be found for sale at or around the price of a large woody Sebenza. Havn't had or handled a Tighe ever but I've heard they are great.

From the list above, I'd go with the Sebbie, also. One heck of a tough, well made knife. And, with inlays (wood or leather), also very chic and stylin' !

Another vote for CRK. IMHO they are the finest knives built at any price.

My vote would be for one of each. A new Mid-Tech Mayo Folder might be on the way that could be the one. I saw the American Made Series in NY and thought that it was one of the best folders bar none. Lock-up was top-notch and it felt "right".

maybe you could find a good deal on a 'real' mayo TNT...i've have a little crush on them myself. i'm a lefty so i'm gonna have my work cut out for me to find one.

i love sebenzas as well and just picked up a LG to compliment my SM and i'm pretty stoked about that choice but it might be worth it to try something new. i'm kinda in the midst of my own search as well...

For the price of an inlaid Sebbie you have arrived at the point where you can afford to start looking at customs like Carson M4s. ;)

I agree with 92 Degrees. I have a few M4s and love them.

Also, I see you like framelocks from the sebbie and mayo listed. Look into the c2o knives. They are a collaboration between Kit Carson, Mike Obenauf, and Kit's son Jody Carson. They are a titanium slabbed framelock based on the Carson M4. IMHO, the ergonomics are superior to the sebbie.

Also, Mike Obenauf makes an amazing framelock. I have handled one side by side with the sebbie, and IMHO, it surpasses it. The sebbie is a great knife, but at the price range, your money is best spent on customs.

Definitely the woodie. Just do your homework and find the one with the best wood. A wood inlay with great wood is almost impossible to beat, IMHO.

Gotta be different. I have a My Tighe folder and love it. Its fit and finish is absolutely perfect, came as sharp as you could want. My only gripe with it is that I would want a little more point in my blade but what the heck, that's why I carry more than one blade!

trust me SEBENZA....you cant go wrong...ive had a ton of production and customs, and i always come back to the sebenza.
