O.K., I have a digital camera and have learned how to use it reasonably well. My problem is with image editing software. What I would like is something that's simple to use, with enough feature to make it practical. The problem I have is that I use a 3.1 Megapixel camera, and what I'm using now (Corel) is an absolute PAIN to edit images down to the required 800X600 pixels so I can post them here on BFC and elsewhere on the web. What do you guys use? My top two candidates now are MS Picture It! and Adobe (not Photoshop, the $50 version). Any suggestions? Ease of use is key here since I've got alot of other things to do besides learn a complicated piece of software.

Thanks!

I personally use photoshop 7 and bunch of plugins to it. However if you don't go into imapge processing all that much and most of the time your goal is to resize/sharpen image then something like ThumbsPlus will do. It is image viewer/catallgizer/editor all in one, and costs around 75$.
I know there are free versions of similar progs. Haven't researched too much.

Well if you have $700 bucks layin around then by all means get Photoshop 7.0 like me and Gator. It’s the best of the best.

However, if a little touchup and enhancement is all your after then check out Photoshop Elements and Kai's Photo Soap. Both are easy to use products and do a great job of the typical resize/crop/enhance and export in multiple formats.

Hope that helps-

Since you mention PictureIt as a possibility, I can say that you would probably be very happy with it.

I have been using it for about 2 years now. It is flexible enough to do anything I want it to and have yet to find something I cant manage with it. It is very easy to use and quick to learn. Spend a free day with it and you will most likely be sailing smooth with it in no time.

Check out my photo album. There are 3 pages of pics and many of them were altered using PictureIt.

If all you want to do is resize pictures and do basic color adjustment there is NOTHING better than Irfanview. It's fast, small, and best of all, FREE.

If you want to edit pictures as well you could check out the GIMP. It's another free program, similar to Photoshop. I used it for a long while before getting Photoshop and while it doesn't have all of PS's features, it's more than enough for most tasks.

I have used a couple of different image editing programs. One is ULead Photo Express 3. It will do most things quite nicely and is quick and easy to use. More advanced techniques I have not learned and have not found tutorials for it. I got it with a digital cam/webcam I purchased a few years ago.

The current proggie I'm using is MS Picture It Photo 7. It is a bit different from PE3 and some things I like better and other things I prefer in PE3. It came as part of my Works 2003 Suite.
There is a listserve and newsgroup for this program so help is at hand.

I also have installed GIMP but have not tried to use it yet. There is also a tutorial available for it.

However, before getting tothe editing stage, the most important part is the camera and the lighting. There have been good discussions on both, here and in CKD so check out the archives and you will be rewarded with lots of good info.
