I finally got a Lum Tanto this weekend and my initial impressions are favorable.
I just have a few questions.
First, it is numbered but I plan to use it...will it detract from the value(if any)?
Second, how good overall is the quality, will it stand up to regular, frequent use?
Third, what can I do to dress up the scales a little?
Any info good, bad or otherwise you can give me on this would be appreciated.

P.S. I have used the search function and found little(if any) help.

I think using the knife will add to the value for you, as you will appreciate the thing much more using it than worshipping it. Mine's built like a tank so I wouldn't expect any problems.

Ditto Ferret.

I've been using mine on boxes all morning!

I appreciate the info.
I am curious, I have read that it is considered a "Gentleman's" knife does this mean it is just dressier or is it not built as tough and solid as the others in the Spyderco line. I don't have a whole lot of experience with folders and am looking for a few that I know are going to stand by me for a long time to come.
Did I choose well with this one?

As I stated before I like the overall look, fit and finish of this piece. I was struck by the beauty of this particular knife almost immediately upon handling it and "had to have it"

Lum works fine for me, it's truly a great Tactical knife and the only problem for me is I have to chose between the Military and Lum evey day to go out with me ~~

The only concern here is the Ti handle get scratch.....if there is a G-10 Lum then that will be perfect

I think the first run with numbered Lum can only cary in Tip Up

The Lum may look elegant, but it's also one tough knife. The hamaguri tip is a genuine brute. I'd have no qualms about using it for pretty much anything.

If you scuff the Ti handle, use some ScotchBrite and it'll clean right up.
