So, I have a SOG Pillar that I use for my EDC, and as my go-to camp knife. I live in a high humidity environment, and I get the knife wet and occasionally a bit bloody (hunting, I’m not a psycho!).
I’m wondering if I should try to remove the scales, and replace them with a removable screw type set up, so that I can keep the entire knife cleaned and rust free. I understand that S35VN is pretty rust resistant, but it can still rust. This was something I never even thought of before, until I saw a thread about rust eating away at knives under the scales. Now I’m paranoid! LOL
So, I’m wondering: 1. Is this something I should even worry about? 2. How do I even go about removing the damn scales without destroying the knife, or micarta scales? 3. Even if I manage it, is it a good idea?
