I have a slight problem. Three benchmade knives have caught my eye and I can only buy one due to money problems.

There is the 804 afck II prototype in m2 for $85.00

There is the 806d2s afck axis prototype for $115.00

Then there is the 710hssr for $90.00

Which one do you think I should get?
If it is a question of steel, which one has the edge?D2 or M2?

i was under the impression that d-2 and m-2 were different names for the same steel, i could be wrong. if i were you i'd get the afck.

Depends on what u want to use the knife for. For self defense get the Afck. For General use get the 710. The Afck handle is very secure in grip. But it is curved downwards. The 710 has a relative straight handle.

Depens on wether u like serration and can sharpen them or not.
D2 is a semi stainless and thats why they come in BT finish. It has a very tough and toothy edge. If you cut a box and hit a staple, no problem.

M2 is not stainless. Very tough and you can reduce the bevel to 30 deg total with no effect. After sharpening, strop the edge and u get a knife that scares the hair off your arm!!. Will also pass the staple test.

If you have never tried the Axis lock, I suggest you get it and not save the money.

Hope this helps.

an easy one, imho..........

get the 806S-D2, i have one and its one of my favorite knives.

i also have had or have the others also, wasnt nutz about the 710, ok, but not as good as the AFCK imho, and a axis AFCK is better than a liner AFCK imho also, and i have 8 AFCK's now, lol (5 liner, 1 mini, 2 axis)

all are good knives though, dont get me wrong

jjcoolay,

I've had an 804HS, and handled the 710 extensively. However, I have not used either one. So, the only advice I can give is based on handle ergonomics.

Personally, I prefer the handles on the AFCK series.

The 710 has a thumb ramp/guard? on the top end of the handle, which is uncomfortable for me as I like to place my thumb on the blade itself for more control during cutting tasks.

The AFCK has a nice deep recess where the index finger can lock into the handle. It is, however, a very long handle. The handle/blade ratio is actually the reason I am looking for a mini-AFCK now - it's hard to find smaller knives with generously sized handles!

Good luck with your decision,

Matthew

There is the 806d2s afck axis prototype for $115.00 would be my choice. The axis lock kicks butt. and the knife is of a good size for most any use, and has a good feel to the handles.

Wow thanks for the responses. I was already leaning towards the afck axis but I just needed some ppl's opinions before I commit.

I was eyeing the tsek when I noticed the tsek with axis lock was out on the benchmade website. Then searching on the forums, stumbled on the afck axis proto's and I had to buy.
