My old SOG seal 2000 knife is broken by 1/3 because my mom abused it. She used it to pry loose ceramic floor tiles. I now have to find a new replacement knife. I don't want to spend too much.

I need a knife so my mom can cut meat and bones too. I prefer fix blade with full tang. I can only spend up to max of $200 bucks. I am not rich guy like sylvester Stalone ;) :D

Do you guys have any recommendations for replacement knife? I don't want any boutique / fancy decorated knife. I want utility knife that is strong to withstand heavy beating with rubber hammer.

I would get my Mom a meat clever for bones and a serrated knife for meat cutting for her first. Then you can pick any knife you choose & keep it locked up! Thats one Tough Mom you have there! :D

Yeah I'd get a cleaver to chop the bones with. But for a large combat type knife I'd get the Camillus/Becker BK7.

Don't spend anything, send it back to SOG, considering how they promote the knife it isn't like they can argue that your mom abused it - which would be really lame anyway considering how it is constantly promoted as being tough enough for the navy seals. They actually promote it based on tip breaking strength, blade toughness and prying ability. I would assume that is defective unless of course your mom is Jill Mills.

You don't need to go near $200, get a Camp Tramp, remove ceramic tiles all day long, though I would personally use a sledge and crowbar, not because of concern about the knife, it would just be easier on me with the increased leverage.

Heavy beating and rubber hammer probably should not go in the same sentance.

My perspective exactly.

Yes, the CT would be excellent. Consider the Ranger RD9 as well. A little loss in cutting, maybe better for prying.

For 200$ (well actually much much much less) you could get an excellent cutting carbon steel Mora from ragweed forge and a super-strong prybar then you would be set.

Yes, I don't think Justin would hesitate to have his knives so field tested. That being said, for those who have not done it, removing ceramic tiles which have been properly layed isn't trivial. It is often easier to actually haul up the entire underlay.
