I'm thinking about buying the Satin Jack in 3/16", but would like to hear from some owners....is this blade large enough to cut small, saplings, no larger than one's wrist? Thanks!

Welcome to the Busse Forum, glad you stopped by.

Here is a great review of the Satin Jack in 3/16" that BuzzBait wrote up. Might be worth your time taking a look at it. http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=201342&highlight=satin+jack

Will it handle a sapling, the short answer is Yes. Will it handle it as well as one of the bigger Busses No. If you are going to be doing a lot of chopping look into the Steel Heart or Battle Mistress. If chopping will just be a small part of its uses it will do fine, a little more work than a larger blade but it is easily strong and durable enough to handle it.

The Satin Jack will excel in the smaller hunting, camping and utility tasks compared to the larger Busses, it will begin to lose ground as you move into the chopping.

Eric,

I really appreciate your reply...I will go ahead and order the SJ, delivery will be 2-6 wks. Again, thanks!

TM,
Great, let us know when you receive it and what you think. It really is a great knife, perfect for many jobs :D:D

turkeyman,
Welcome to the Busse forum. The SJ is a great knife,
might be a little light for alot of chopping. I've used my
1/4 SJ to clear shooting lanes, but nothing real big.

You might consider pairing the 3/16 satin Jack (or one of the new badgers or groovemeisters) with a pauls hatchet.
