I am an elk hunter..want to buy a new hunting knife to do both boning and caping; new to this forum and have seen a lot of talk that S30v steel is better at holding an edge than D-2; is S30V also that much more difficult to sharpen and if so, using what type sharpener? Appreciate your thoughts..

I have quality blades, Bob Dozier, BM and Queen in D-2, and Kershaw and BM in S30V. Honestly, I dearly love both, and I would hate to have to choose between them. I've found no difference in either edge retention or ease of sharpening.

Take a look at some of Bob Dozier's hunting knives. For around $200, you can get a semi-custom hunting knife of properly heat treated D2, truly razor sharp, with near perfect blade geometry!

And, you'll be the envy of every other guy in camp!! :p
