I´m trying to make my little collection a bit bigger and I´m planning to add a trapper to my traditional american folders group (I already have a Case stockman and a Colonial barlow). I've decided to order some knives from Bayou Laforche -very good prices and never failed the times I´ve ordered before- so the options are Case Amber Bone C.V., Henckels 2 blade trapper and Cold Steel. Guaranteed brands and similar prices.
The question is, provided it won´t be a worker (but neither a strictly collector item, 'cause I like to use all my knives): which one would you recommend?

Thanks a lot in advance.

case are collectors... but i heard the CV steel of theirs is good... i wouldnt use their surgical steel though...

henkels, i havent heard much of them for this kinda knife, id be interested to see what others think, i have kitchen knives by them which are Top notch!!!

cold steels arent collecting knives, the Carbon V steel uis supposed to be AMAZING.

sevilla,
My edc is a Case trapper in cv with yellow synthetic handles. I'm satisfied with it as a worker, but I don't know about as a collector. The amber bone would be really nice. The cv steel will rust really fast, though, unless it is kept REALLY dry. Once it gets a good patina on it the rust seems to slow down some. I don't know anything about the cold steel folders. Is the steel their Carbon V (50100b I think:confused: )? I'm sure they are top notch. I didn't even know Henckles made anything but kichen knives. My inlaws have a set of Henckles kitchen knives that are about 10 yrs. old, and every one has cracked handle slabs. Also, the steel is pretty soft, but is quite easy to sharpen. The big butcher knife in the set has at least 1/2" worn of of the edge, and I doubt if it's ever seen a sharpening medium other than a steel. Just my $.02.

Just last week I bought a Case Amber Bone Mini Trapper in "Surgical Stainless Steel". I honed it to a pretty sharp edge but I have not done any real cutting with it.

My intended use for it is cutting fruit because my regular EDC, the Delica, is just awkward for this use.

I think the CV vs. SS depends on how you would be using the knife.

I looked at a Case CV Trapper at a knife shop earlier today and because they neglected to wipe it after showing it, it has lots of rust spots.

I never considered buying one of these knives before but now that I have one, I kind of like them. They have a real American feel and are not scarey looking EDC.

I can see myself buying others.
