hey all i am looking for a production folder with a really good steel that will hold an edge for a really really long time, rust/impact is not really a problem since i am just gonna slice and cut with this, not gonna chop or anything like that. i was thinking of the kershaw shallot with s110v, i would like the steel to be or on par with s90v/m2/m4, would like to keep it under $200. TY LOTS

If your ok with a small two handed opening lockback with no pocket clip, check the Fallkniven U2 out, its supposed to have some of the best stainless for around 60$

A Kershaw Shallot with either a S110V or ZDP-189 blade would be fine. If you want a larger blade, then I recommend a Spyderco Military S90V or a Kershaw JYDII Titanium/SG2.

Look at the Lone Wolf Defender, 154cm, flat ground stiletto type of blade. Under 2 bills and well looks like a gentleman's tactical. keepem sharp

How about a Benchmade 940 or have J T Clark fix you one of his customs. He uses several different steels and can make one for around $200 depending on how you want it fixed. Good Luck! Kevin :D

A Spyderco Endura ZDP-189 with a Tom Krein regrind to Full Flat Grind will work extremely well. The thinner edge (.010" is recommended) will make cutting easier as well as sharpening easier. If you want unreal edge retention but needing a sharpmaker to sharpen it a serrated edge ZDP Endura will be great, and a regrind would help it to cut easier as well. The Shallot in S110V should hold an edge great, too, but I can personally vouch for the ZDP Enduras.

Well I just received a Spyderco Caly 3 w/CF scales and ZDP-189 blade. It is an awesome folder. It will spend quite a bit of time in my pocket.

S110V/ZDP Kershaw Shallot. Mine both hold an edge for a ridiculously long time, the ZDP is more for slicing, the S110V for any other normal tasks.

Spyderco Stretch II
ZDP steel, nice thin blade for slicing, great ergonomics, just under 200 dollars.

Welcome to BladeForums. You're fairly new here, so in case you haven't already figured it out, let me explain how things work around here. You might as well have posted the question "What's your favorite folder?," because that's how most everybody is going to read it. We all have our favorite knives, usually for good reason. That doesn't make one any better than another.

In threads like this, you should take the people who try to talk you out of the purchase you're looking at making a whole lot more seriously than the ones that try to steer you towards something different. Like I said, they're all going to be good suggestions, but that doesn't mean you should change your mind.

That said, the shallot is a nice little knife. For the price, it's an outstanding little knife. If you like the way it looks, you can't go too wrong with it.

Hope you enjoy your time hangin' around with us knuts.

Lots of choices in the sub-$200 range... narrow it down a little bit in terms of size, handle materials, carry method, assisted opening, flipper/studs/hole etc ;)
