My apologies for not lurking more but time is of the essence.
My fathers birthday is quickly approaching and I would like to get him a new hunting knife.

My specification are these:
The knife needs to be a somewhat large (bigger than 4") fixed blade hunting knife. It must have a high carbon steel blade and I want to it to have elk, deer, or buffalo horn on the grips.

Cold Steel made a Trail Master in Carbon V with an elk handle 3 years ago and this would have been perfect but they no longer offer it.

Is a knife of these specs likely to be commercially available or will I need to custom order this from a knife maker?

Any help would be massively helpful. Thank you.

I saw the Cold Steel bowie you're talking about at Country Knives in PA, their prices are very expensive, but they did have several pieces two months ago, I would Google them if you're willing to spend about 500.00 (ouch). eBay has a lot of the Laredo Bowies, they have a wooden handle, you might find one with an elk handle.

the Bark River are not bad. Very reasonably priced. Elk bone would be acceptable as well as horn of some kind. I'll admit to be ignorant about A2 but I think its a high carbon stainless, no?

I'd like more options if they are available.

Scott AKA Razorback knives might have something on hand you'd be interested in. He specializes in hunting knives and makes them to be used hard :D He also works mainly with horn handles and carbon steel blades.

Since you said your on a tight deadline your probably gonna have to find somebody that has a knife done already. Here's his website:

What kind of price range are you looking at?
Up to $500. I just did a moron check and realized that I had not exhausted my search of manufactured knives. Randal has some very tempting knives available in carbon with stag bone handles. If all else fails I will get one of these.

Those are some real nice knives and I'd buy one myself. But for my dad I'd like something a little more sophisticated more elegant. Just so you guys know I've got about 7 weeks to get this for him. Not an immediate crunch but a definite one.

Bark River would be good, Marble's comes to mind, AG Russel had some Marbles with stag in the old "Ideal" pattern. sometimes you can find a Bob Dozier in D2 with antler or horn. run a thread in WTB or watch the Custom knives FS.
