Is this folder worth $45 (with shipping)? I like the idea of a double-edged folding knife, but I'm not sure about Cold Steel's quality with it; my knives from them seem to be about a 50-50 shot. Thanks for the help. God bless you, America, and our men and women overseas.

To me, no it's not. Mine is AUS10A, with soft aluminium and it sticks when deploying. It's more of a hazard than a help as a defensive piece. Others may disagree. Aus10 isn't bad steel though. It came pretty sharp. Joe

I'd consider getting one for that price. Wouldn't pay more, but probably not many would. They are cool, for the design, but I don't believe the soft aluminum will hold up to much hard work. Watch yourself on the double-edged blade, as well. One bit me quite deep once. If I could find the plain-edged tanto, I would love to have it, but I don't see myself getting the double, unless it was even cheaper. The steel is pretty decent, and the edge comes wicked sharp, so, if the design appeals to you, less than $50 is a fairly good deal.

i had one and did not like it at all, it also cut the piss outta me lol, imho lotsa better stuff around,

The blade is not bad, very sharp:thumbup: ! But the handle is a very bad:thumbdn: . Soft aluminium, and the opening/closings isn't smooth or fast at all.

If you're gonna get a bali, you might as well go for the real deal, as opposed to a wannabe of mixed quality ;) . The biggest complaint against the triple action is that it has weak handles, and is too light and unbalanced to flip around very well. It could also be considered a gravity knife (then again, so could balisongs), which could make it illegal for carrying in your part.

Honestly though- depending on how much you're willing to spend, a good balisong could be exactly what you're looking for.

I don't have one of those. Having said that, I don't plan to, either.

The handle on that thing scares the cr*p out of me, seriously. Just look at it--no choil, no finger guard, no friction notches, or anything to keep your precious fingers from sliding onto razor sharp steel.

I once owned a small Spyderco folder, with a very smooth stainless steel handle. Once, while cutting up a cardboard box, the knife slipped in my hand and made a nice slice on my finger. :thumbdn:

I still own Sypdercos, just not those with smooth, stainless handles that get slippery when wet with sweat, water, oil, etc.

I'd look for another knife.

I've owned some CS knives, some were good, some bad, but that design, Triple Action, has to be one of their worst.

I handled that POS at the knife store. The handles felt like they were made out of cigarette foil.

Thanks, ended up and passed on the deal. After actually handling the knife, I think that Cold Steel could have used a little more development time for that particular model. If only Lynn Thompson could be a great company head who listens to the people like Sal Glesser. Both of my Voyagers are great (the 3-inch Medium and 6-inch X2), my Twistmaster is a good folder based on the Opinel, and my old-stock Master Tanto is a good belt knife. The quality of my Scimitar (the lock is loose with lots of play, barely acceptable edge retention) and Peace Keeper (the finish scratches EASY, the 420 steel doesn't hold much of an edge at all) aren't as good. Thanks for the advice.
