Need advice regarding Benchmade problem

Hi all,

I'm pretty new to the knife game, recently purchased a new Benchmade Griptilian full-size folder. I like the knife but there's a bit of side-to-side play in the blade. After snugging up the set screw it removes the play but then the blade is ridiculously tight and hard to swing.

Weird thing is after opening the knife, the blade has some side play... if I then wiggle the blade while it's opened & locked it sets into place and then has less side play. Almost like the blade isn't seating fully after being opened until I wiggle it a bit.

Is this normal? Am I being anal about this or does this sound like an issue? Any advice is appreciated.

Thanks,
Jimmy

Go get some blue loctite and put it on the threads of the pivot screw. Tighten it to where it isn't getting any side to side play and where it is still smooth. Leave it alone for a few minutes to let it dry.

Thx for the advice but what I'm trying to say is if I tighten the screw to the point that the side-to-side play is gone, the blade is *really* tight and doesn't swing easily.

Also like I said in the orig post, if I manually wiggle the blade after opening it "sets" and subsequently looses most of the side-to-side play, which I think is kinda unusual.

I have the same "feature" of my grip. The pivot screw affects the blade play at an incredibly sensitive level. There is a happy medium between blade play and ease of opening. You just have to find the sweet spot based on how you like it. Given it's construction, it'll be hard to make it perfect.

Good Advice! Give Benchmade an opportunity to make it right. They have outstanding customer service and pretty quick turn-around times.

I typically find that quite a few knives have this little "glitch". The trick is to use very small, almost microscopic adjustments to find that magical "sweet spot". Blue Loctite would help to keep it in that sweet spot. I personally like to lean a bit towards a slightly looser screw for a smoother opening, and just disregard that minor blade play.
