I need advice on the selection of a folder with an 3" blade that is defense capable. Most of my knives are longer then this. Those that aren't are more very light duty pocketknives.
It must be a folder and robust enough with a strong enough lock to not fail if the s**t hits the fan.Price is of course always a consideration:.) but not the primary consideration here.Non-scary looking is a plus but not essential. Thanks in advance.

How about the plain edge Delica II. All steel handle, spydie hole for quick deployment, and not too expensive.

I too would go with some type of Spyderco. They are sturdy, easily deployed, and provide a very large measure of performance for the money spent. I know that my micarta-handled Jess Horn would fit your requirements quite nicely....

The Benchmade 705 is a good knife, meets your needs I think.

Another vote for the BM705. Axis lock can't be beat by any linerlock of lockback, and the blade is a great profile for a small defensive knife.

I just had to jump on the bandwagon. The Benchmade 705 is a great knife. Solid, smooth and under $100.

IMHO- Microtech M-SOCOM. if you get a chance to hold one, you won't believe the fit & finish. if you look around, you can find a good price.

Yes, you can't go wrong with BM 705 - great design, nice workmanship, sturdy lock, fully ambidextrous.

- take your look also on (with no ordering):

  • SPYDERCO Delica 98
    SPYDERCO Calypso Jr. Lightweight
Katz Special Forces with 3" blade
CRKT Mirage Gray Ghost with 3" blade
    Kershaw Avalanche
    Benchmade 812 Mini-AFCK

How about the small CRKT Crawford Kasper? $54.95 SRP, great quality for the price, and the LAWKS liner lock safety. Either this or my old standby - Spyderco Calypso Jr plain edge icarta. Can't go wrong with either of these.
