Last night I decided to use the tuf-glide lubricant that I purchased at the blade west show on my CQC6. I put a few drops into the pivot pin area, let it dry, and wipped off all the excess. Later I noticed the blade now has a gritty feel when I open it :(. I tried to clean out the pivot pin as best as I could but it still has that gritty feeling . I was thinking about taking apart my knife but am worried that it will not have the same feel as it did new. What can I do ?

Mac, I'd take it apart (carefully), wipe everything down and re-lube it with good, ol fashioned Breakfree.

John,
I was looking at my knife and it looks like there might only be two screws holding it together - the pivot pin and the pin at the tail end. Am I missing anything? Thanks

It's no use buddy! That CQC6 is now wasted! Rather get rid of it, cos that gritty noise will EAT you.

I'll give you $200 to unburden you, thats just me, helping out a fella

PS I agree with John, :D

Okay I broke down and dismantled my 6. It was a relatively simple job but I have one concern. Prior to dismantling the liner stopped at the side closet to the lock but after putting it back together I noticed the liner-lock now goes almost all the way to the opposite side of the blade. Should I be concerned or is this normal and acceptable?

Mac,
It's totally acceptable untill it fails... :-{)

Seriously, alot of my folders traverse past midpoint in Blade.
Never had a problem and have talked to numerous makers. They claim no problem including Ernest.

Good seeing you at the show. My best to you and your family.
Thanks

As Tamishigiri pointed out, it's not a problem.

You might try taking it back apart and turning the stop pin slightly.

John

I tried taking it all apart again and tightened the pivot pin first and then the tail screw last. After doing this I was able to get the lock to stop basically at midpoint. Successive attempts did not lead to any further improvement. Additionally, I checked the rest of my knives and many of them have the same issue but are still functional.

Tamishigiri, It was good to see you again at the show. You owe me big time for selecting your name at the lottery! One of these days we will have to meet up at the academy again and do some serious training.

Mac

Hey Mac. It was good meeting you at Blade West. I just want to warn you about training hard with Tamishigiri-plan on being in a lot of pain for the week after. The last time Tami and I did some really good hard training, we were on the phone crying like little girls everyday for the next week about what color purple or black our forearms were on that particular day, or where the contusions were growing out of. More fun than kids should be allowed to have.
