I went to my local knife dealer with the intention of ordering a sere 2k, and now I am totally at a standstill at what I want...I need advice. I found several knives that I am really interested in for my LAST purchase for a while(baby on the way and $$ will get tighter)

Sere 2k-Had one for 2 days and loved it.
Godfather- First time I handled one and was blown away.
Mini Socom elite- Impressed with the quality, but kind of dainty for my tastes.
Lone wolf val-matic- Wildcard of the bunch, don't know much about it. Felt very solid, maybe a little stiff on the scale release.

I know I can count on you guys to be generous with your awesome advice. I can get all of these knives between 130-and 200, so price does not matter. The knife will not be used for heavy duty, just occasional light use, I just want a bada$$ knife for the collection and to play with.

Maybe I just haven't been exposed to autos enough, but even after playing with several ProTechs at Atlanta I still can't see me giving in and buying one for EDC. My SERE 2000 however is as impressive as ever and is currently in my rotation for LF pocket (dual studs) EDC carry! Maybe I'm just an old dog not interested in learning new tricks?
Just MHO.

Get a Benchmade 710, or if you can carry a slightly larger folder, get a Benchmade 805/806D2...Trust me on this.:).

Of the four, I would choose the Godfather simply because I haven't had one yet. :p How's that for advice? FWIW I had a SERE 2K and didn't like it much. Too heavy for pocket carry and the lock was sort of twitchy. If you don't mind the weight and get one with a good lock it's a nice knife, but it didn't quite do it for me. Like you I find the SOCOM a bit dainty (I'm sure it's not really, but it doesn't feel as solid as I like). And I have heard of problems with the Lone Wolf, like that it has aluminum screws and doesn't hold together well. That is second hand but the knife never did much for me anyway, so take it for what it's worth.

I can see that you like larger folders, so i agree with Glockman99 on the BM 710, or even a 730. If you can find the 730 in a special edition with carbon fiber, even better, and the Axis lock is all about the fun!

I'd also like to suggest the Microtech LCC, if you can find one. Very stout, very beautiful, and fun to flick, if you get the D/A version. If you find the mini Socom Elite a bit dainty, the full sized Socom should do it for you. Those can be had in that price range, especially if you find one of the old school versions (not Elite).

Good luck,
DD

I know, I know, I know, it wasn't on the list initially, but it wasn't disqualified either and I do consider it in the category.

I would take a look at the Spydie Military. Of what you listed, I have only handled the Benchmades, but the Millie is the best I have come across for all around bang for the buck. It is worth a look at least.

If you like Microtech, but think the mini socom elite is too dainty, check out an Amphibian. I see there are some new ones floating around that have S30v blades. You can get either auto or manual. It has a heck of a beefy blade, and I think it is more pocket friendly than a Sere 2k. My 2 cents...

Agree with Daniel, the microtech lcc is a very nice knife. I have 4 of the manual ones. I imagine the dual actions are equally as nice. Another microtech I'm really digging is the Terzuola atcf dual action. I'm a bit of a custom Terzuola nut though.
Good luck,
John...

My Sere 2k has been collecting dust since getting a BM710HS. The 710 has a longer blade and is lighter ( 3.9" 4.5oz as against 3.6" 6oz ) making it IMHO a far better EDC. Haven't handled a Spyderco Military, but recently received a Paramilitary ( 3.2" 3.75oz ) and this one seems to fulfill all of my EDC requirements. The 710 & Paramilli will both be more friendly in your front pocket, will outperform the Sere 2K in most aspects of everyday usage, can be opened and closed with one hand quickly and are both cheaper.
