so i want to add a fire steel notch and some jimping to the spine on my bk2. if you could give me some pointers or send me some links it would be much appreciated.

Pretty simple really. If you are set on a notch, just make sure it is the same size as your fire steel. Put it where you feel comfortable. I just make a short flat spot with a sharp 90* edge. Works with any size fire steel. A Dremel tool works well, or a properly sized grinding stone in a drill press. I put the fire steel flat spot on the extended tang.

May not be pretty, but they are super functional.

ive used the flat surface on the spine before. i may go with that again. i was wondering though. if you expose the metal will that area rust more? or do you treat it?

It will rust (eventually) since it is bare metal but it takes some time. Ways to avoid that are making sure it is dry and oiled every time you put it up, or by adding a patina to that section of exposed metal.
