Hello everyone.

I splitted and carved black evony to make a wooden sheath.
But I don't have any idea about how to finish this.
I cannot imagine how to hold knife and what to wrap ebony pieces,
and how to attach a belt loop to wooden sheath.
There's no machine without primitive tools.
Please tell me your ideas.

My goal is rust-free storage.

Crack is my mistake during carving.

You sure don't have much wood in front of the edge!!!

Yes I'm still wondering about slot length.
I want to make a friction between leather and wood,
But how long and how tight?... I don't decide it yet.

Greetings,
Your wood sheath design is very similar to the wood sheaths recently made popular in USA by Kanetsune knives of Seki City, Japan.

Take a look at their website and look at the field knife selection to see multiple examples of how they put wooden sheaths together using wood, leather, metal and even tree bark.

Thanks for the link CWL, I have a similar one.
But it is just a "drop into" sheath, and I feel it is easy to fall.
And leather attachments seems to be complicated for me,
so I'm in search for simple form of mine.

If you don't want to work with leather, how about strong glues to hold the wood together and wire to wrap around the ends for strength and beauty?

You can also use cotton or silk cord for very Japanese style wrapping. Or even cloth ribbon that you can soak with resin or lacquer to strengthen.

Thank you CWL. I glued woods yesterday.
I'm wondering about epoxy-soaked hemp cord wrapping as you say,
it will be simple and beautiful for me except carrying problems.
