Can anyone direct me to a source or individual that would be able to appraise a Nazi dress saber?
This saber was given to me by a friend of the family who had no children and considered me an "adopted" grandson. He was in the U.S. Army during WWII, and served in northern Africa and the European theatre.
Here are some details for anyone who might be familiar with such items:

Description:

Overall length: 36.5"

Blade length: 31 3/8"

Guard (left side): Oval flat 9/16x3/4"

Guard (right side): Nazi Eagle w/Swastika

Backstrap (nomenclature?): raised floral pattern w/acorns

Butt: lion's head w/what appear to be rubies for eyes (1/8" diameter)

D-guard(?): comes out of lion's mouth btwn the fangs, also has raised floral pattern w/acorns

Handle material: black _? w/11 1/16" vertical grooves (that go all the way around) 1/4" apart. Each groove contains two vertical silver(?) strands w/two more strands intertwined btwn them.

Markings: Besides the aforementioned eagle and swastika, the blade is marked on the left side: ROBERT KLAAS in a downward curving semicircle over two storks(?) whose bodies are both facing to the right (top of the blade). The right-hand stork has his head turned back toward the one on the left and their beaks almost touch in the middle. There is a small cross on either side of the storks, and the word SOLINGEN in an upward curving semi-circle beneath them.

I don't want to sell this piece, but I am curious about it's worth and any other information about it's history or maker.
Thanks.

There´s a German knife company called "Klaas" still operating, so you might want to contact them. Maybe they can offer some info. But be warned: German companies are very sensitive when it comes to involvement with the Nazi era, so make it clear to them that you are not some neo-nazi ******* or nuts white supremacy guy collecting nazi stuff.
