yeah bet this hasn't been asked a thousand times, anyway, i'm looking for a folder thats very sharp out of the box, can survive abuse from alot of use and still looks pretty nice while its at it. I'm not really sure about a price range, 400 too high but i dunno for under that.
Thanks

Hi Spyke, if custom folders are out of your price range, there are alot of very well made factory folders that will do. Do you prefer a plain edge or combo edge? What blade length?

You did not give us too much information as to what you plan on doing with the knife. So, without knowing any of your real knife needs and desires, here are some of the basic production folders that will hold up extrememly well. There are many many other, different recommendations, but these are the best that I have found.

Under $150: Benchmade Axis 710, Al Mar SERE 2000

$150 - $200: Spyderco ATR, TOPS Magnum

About $300 - $375: Large CRK Sebenza. Fabulous knife.

$400: Strider folders

ok, sorry about the lack of info, i would rather have a plain edge and it would basicly be used for all around cutting, opeaning things, pretty much everything i would need a knife for. I dont think i would need a blade any longer than 4 inches, but i'm not really sure on that one. Thanks again

Spyke, I would definately give the Al Mar SERE 2000 in satin finish a serious look. Others to consider: Buck Strider (spear point), Benchmade 520, SOG Tomcat, Spyderco Chinook. These knives can take a beating and then some.

No bad suggestions so far. ;)

I would add the Camillus Dominator to your list.

My top picks for taking abuse and still looking pretty are the titanium-scaled models:

CRK Large Sebenza
Camillus Dominator
Spyderco ATR
Buck Mayo

G-10 is hard to scratch up, but the marks really show once you manage it.

I love my Sebenzas, but bear in mind the the Sebbie's ti handle will mark very easily.

I have to agree here, except for the new Spiderco ATR. The ATR is really great. The compression lock will give the lock on the Sebenza a run for its money. Plus the ATR is only about $190.00. I own them both and I carry the ATR more. I also find the ATR to be much more agressive, and better looking than the Sebenza. My Sebenza is a large classic with leather inlay (OK but very boring looking).

However, the ATR is brand new, and the Sebenza has years of production behind it. If money is no object, and you don't mind a very boring looking knife, the Sebenza cannot be beat.

Buck/Mayo

-Sharp out of the box...check
-Can survive abuse from a lot of use...just got it so I'm not sure, but it's S30V and Titanium so I'd venture a guess and say...check
-Still look pretty nice while it's at it...check

My last 2 large folders have been the Al Mar SERE 2000 and the Spyderco Military. Both were pretty much flawless, with a slight lead in fit and finish going to the SERE. However, I carry the Military a bit more often because it's lighter, sleeker, tip-down, slick to open and horrifyingly sharp. I heartily recommend either one.

Second the vote for the Military.

hmmmm I would say either Sebenza ( LARGE ) or Strider SnG or AR

ok so i think i'm going to go with the Sebenza, but now where is the best place to buy one online?

if you want to save a few $$$ check the for sale stuff here on BFC. There are at least 2 up there now with smokin prices.... and that wood inlay
