Im rebuilding my 14" hollow grinder and need a new idler wheel. I want a large diameter one, about 6" or 8" one preferably. Does anybody make these? I wonder if Rob Frink makes them?

Contact Bader.

I use the standard, off-the-shelf crowned 6-incher from Bader with bearing when I'm making a grinder. They can make wheels any way you want and they've always been fast and reasonable for my stuff.
I've also had them do custom contact wheels (different durometer rubber) for surface-grinder conversion I've done.

Hey Bruce,

If you don't mind a little fooling aroumd you can order an aluminium Caster with a hard urethane tire from enco or surplus center and then true it up on a lathe. they come with bearings but you might have tochange them for something better.

I would bet Rob might be able to help.

Bruce do you have an old worn out 8" contact wheel you can make one from ?

I still have that 1095 for you I havn't forgot,, if you need it soon let me know
I'll ship you enouph that will last you a while this time..:)

Thanks guys, I will make some calls. Ive been working on my shop addition while the weather is holding out. I can still use the grinder but the small out of balance wheel it has makes for a vibration. With a larger wheel like about 6" or 8" I can shorten the extension mounting arm and make this thing more compact. I run a 2 x 132" belt on it and it takes up allot of valuable room in my already cramped shop.

Dan Ive never worn out a wheel. What do you do to yours? Do you have one? Oh theres no hurry on the 1095 but thanks for remembering with all the other things youre busy with. I just use it for small gun springs so my supply has held out pretty well for now at least.

HI Bruce
I havn't worn one out either, I did have a blade catch once on me  and took a gouge out of it.. I think I can turn it down and re-use it..
to replace it was like 100.00
if you need the steel before I get it out to you , don't feel bad about giving me a shout , I need some reminding somtimes..:o

If you want a quick answer Take a cast steel wheel with a PVC tire onit and chuck it up in the lathe to turn the inside of the hub down. This option is aprox. $ 26 plus machineing time (you will also need to turn the "crown" off the wheel if you intend to use it as a contact wheel.) worked on my KMG knock off.
