Need an "in-between" grit

Hey guys, I use a 1 x 30 belt grinder for sharpening and have been getting great results. But after im done I can still sometimes see some grit evidence in the edge. I use a trizact belt that I believe is a6 being about 1500 grit. After that I go to 1 micron paste, .5 then .25 then leather. What could you recommend in between the belt and the first compound?

I'll preface this by mentioning I haven't used belt grinders for sharpening.

Having said that, you can also get the DMT diamond paste in 6 & 3 micron size. Either/both of them might be a logical step in between. I'd bet jumping from the belt to 1 micron paste on a strop is a pretty wide leap in grit. Komitadjie's grit chart thread (posted as a sticky in the Maint forum; linked below) would be a good reference to check out, if you haven't already. He shows the trizact A6 belt to be at about 6.5 micron. Be sure to check his most recent update in that thread, as he updates his grit chart periodically:
