I'm looking at the Lansky sharpener, the Gatco, and the Spyderco sharpener. I'd like to hear from those who have experience with them.

Do they scratch the blades?

I have mostly 1095 and CV, some stainless, but also want to sharpen big kitchen knives. What would be the best choice among those three?

Thanks.

The Spyderco won't scratch the blades. Can't comment on the others.

Blade scratches are the reason I stopped using Arkansas novaculite stones.

Best Wishes,
Bob

The spyderco sharpmaker is great, and it hasnt scratched any of my blades. It should be fine sharpening kitchen knives.

Once you set up the knives for the sharpmaker (making the edge meet up with the stones) the sharpmaker is great for maintenence. I use it all over, and all the time with the regular stones.

Thanks for the info. There is a another similar queston posted by SGT and the Spydeco product is hightly recommended by many. I'll probably buy one.

I have a Lansky and I like it better as you don't move the knife you put the knife in a jig and then move the stones which are kept at the same angle.

Im not famillar with the others but, I have nothing except good things to say about the Spyderco Sharmaker, including blade scratches as I have had none from the Sharpmaker.

I found the Gatco just as much as the lansky.
But the Gatco was less money!
And for the Spyderco never used it but come on its a Spyderco Its going to be Graet!
