I am looking to buy an all around field knife, to do some chopping, but mostly cutting and field work. I was considering a Tom Brown Tracker because I am an avid outdoorsman and it seems fit to do the Job I was also considering a Chris Reeve Project 1 or a Busse if I can get my hands on one. I am not real restricted as far as price goes.

I have a pretty good review of the tracker in the wilderness&survival section you should check out.

I was also looking for a TOUGH knife to use outdoors camping, 4-wheeling, backpacking, hiking etc.. I wanted something STRONG but couldn't break the wallet on a single knife.. I went for the CRK Shadow IV - from what I have read on different sites and forums its TOUGH! For the money the Busse sounds and looks very reliable as well but cost a little more and is larger(custom size?).

I’ve got a Project I, and it’s a great knife, but it hasn’t had any use since I got my Neil Roberts Warrior. IMO, it’s definitely worth checking out the new CRK.

The Busse SFNO is a great all round camp knife, but it might take a while to find one. The Busse Company Store is now beginning to get Fusion Steel Hearts.

Swamp Rat are nearly as tough as Busse (they are sister companies), and the Camp Tramp and Ratweiler both make great large camp knives.

It’s worth checking out Ranger Knives. Justin can build you just about anything, and is a stand up guy to deal with.

I read the review on the tracker, and if it is as tough as people say it is then I might lean more toward that, busse looks alot like what I want but it also looks hard to get ahold of, and I dont know much about swamprat. I will have to hold the CRK shadow and the ranger knives, I havent held thier products. I have held hte tracker and the proj1. I will probably end up buying both in the long run.

I would have to say that the CRK Project I, or II would be my choice from the list you gave. The CRK in the 5.5" range would probably work just as well.

This doesn't require a "tough" knife as much as one designed for decent bush craft. The knife generally promoted for high toughness are designed for things like heavy prying and hard impacts on the spine and edge. If price isn't an issue then get a decent custom bush knife from Ray Kirk, it will cut and chop exceptionally well.

Ok I will be using it for bushcraft but as well as some prying and chopping, some digging, it will be an all around camp knife as well as perform unseen duties. I have read alot about fehrman knives and they seem readily available, though I have never held one they seem very nice. I have talked to Scott gossman, and read up on him, his knives seem like they would be nice as well. I have read that the Green Beret isnt great for camp chores though and heavy cutting.

Reeves and Busse are tops.

However for use in the woods why not use what thousands of military folks have used very successfully in some very adverse conditions?

Ok for that you want to move away from pure bushcraft and more towards heavy utility, so look at Swamp Rat, Ranger Knives and Busse Combat.
