i live in Texas and i want to get a BM gamer fecas http://www.benchmade.com/products/product_detail.aspx?model=10510

i want to spend no more than $60 because i just bought BM42s. i am going to carry the fixed blade.

Before i buy it i want to know what other options i have.

i started to work more at my grandfathers little ranch and it will be used for a lotof things and i want to carry it all day where ever i go except school.

blade no bigger than 4.11 inches.

i have given my knives to family members and i want to get new ones but it will be a while. i am going to give my trusted spyder delica to my brother becasue he want one and this one has saved my life a couple of times. so i need one.

can't be a double bladed. it needs to pass texas law

also i want to use it as a defense knife if i have to.

I dont really have an idea of the style you want but I would go with CRKT for small fixed blades in your price range. Also the Necker Becker is good and in the price range, if you want to spend a bit more money you could get a Busse Skeleton Key.

destroythealter carbon or stainless does not matter. may be synthetic.

to clarify it will be used for cutting rope, wires, and for personal carry

thanks, edited my post a bit but, I would still give you the same recomendations, just wanted to make sure I was recomending something in your ball park.

Busse, they have a good rep here and you can check em' out at Bussecombat.com/knives. They're at the bottom of the knife page and are also the second knife featured on the home page.

Rat-3 In d2 is a nice blade with a decent size. Wont cost as much as a skeleton key either. I carry one and I like it alot.

That would be Ontario.

Check out Swamp Rat for some a little above your price range which will last a lot longer and be a lot better, if you could wait long enough for the extra fifty or so dollars.

Busse's INFI steel and Swamp Rat's SR101 are notoriously good.

In Texas legal length is 5.5 inches for carry considerations. That should open the field alittle. There are several people that can make you a kydex sheath. I carry mine on the off side, angle at about 15 degrees. Sometimes the small of back in the horizontal position. If you have a CC permit you can carry you blade concealed. The knives for working the Farm/Ranch/Yard should be stout enough to take your intended uses. Ontario makes many hard work knives at reasonable prices as does Buck, their Nighthawk is a good one 61/4 inch blade or 5 inch blade. About 45 dollars at Wal-Mart. Also check out Cold Steels Seconds on their web site. I got one and could not find a problem.

I've a valid Texas CCW permit and nowhere in the penal code does it address any weapon other than a handgun.

Texas knife laws are really crap. I can go to Walmart and fill up a shopping cart with knives that you could consider illegal due to the way the laws are worded. Most of them would be kitchen knives.

I was able to buy a Benchmade Rant, brand spanking new for $40 at a knife show. It is an EXCELLENT fixed blade. I keep mine in my truck.

Texas law does not differentiate between open and concealed carry for knives. The length limit is 5-1/2" for both fixed blades and folders. If you avoid double-edges and autos you should be fairly safe.

There is technically a law on the books that makes "bowie knives" illegal in Texas, but as far as I can tell there is no legal definition of what that means and it has not been invoked for a very long time.
