Need assistance in Identifying this sword

Recent estate sale find..... i dont see any visible marks anywhere. First thoughts while holding it was ''ceremonial but with an intesting pommel, cross-guard and grip "

thoughts? (not my house btw)














 
It appears to be an Indian Tulwar, like the one shown here. If you Google "Tulwar", you will see that most do not have the upturned arms on the guard. I have no idea if yours is actually old or worth much.

It depends on what you mean by "cleaning." I've seen lots of antiques ruined by guys with wire wheels and little sense. If it were me I would first oil it and wipe it down well to see what I'm actually dealing with. Any active i.e. red rust must be gently scoured off but other than that I would just oil it up and let it be. My take.
