Hey all,

I'm looking to have a leather or kydex sheath made Bagwell style for my San Mai Trailmaster. Basically its a form fitted sheath with a stud or frog so that the sheath can slide between belt and pants. I would also like a retaining strap over the top to keep the blade secure.

Is anyone making this type of sheath? The catch is you will need to have the knife because I not in the USofA and it is hellish expensive to ship a large fixed blade internationally.

Thanks!

The sheath you are describing is usually called a sash sheath. A sheath of that style can generally be made by an experienced maker using only a VERY accurate traced outline of the COMPLETE knife and the thickness of the blade steel at the ricasso. I have done this numerous times but only on this style of sheath. The only very tricky part is fitting the retention strap over the guard without having the knife. I would recommend whoever you get to build it leave the final button hole in the retention strap out of the equation and let you fit that part and punch the hole on your end using the actual knife to fit it.

There are a lot of makers on this forum who could manage this task. http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=573950
Good Luck!

Thanks I am aware of Mike's work, I have a Natchez with a SC. I dropped him a line but had no reply.

Also, I believe he requires the knife in hand to do the sheath.

You are correct, I will need the knife to make it function properly. Probably better done from afar with leather. Paul Long gets my vote.
