Need BM Mini Grip Mod info

Hey Guys,
I just bought a couple of 557 Mini Grips with the intention of taking the satin blade, axis lock bar, and liners off the black grip and putting all on the sand color mini grip. Also putting the black blade and hardware on the black one.
As you can see in the picture, I got as far as swapping blades and put a polished split arrow clip on the sand one.
I need to know how to get the liners and axis lock out of one and back in the other correctly. It appears that the springs in the axis lock may go flying everywhere when I pull the scales off? I saw the thread that shows in detail how to take a full size grip apart, but these appear to be a horse of a different color.
Can anyone point me to a thread, video or other detailed info that will help me with this mod?

Thanks,
Paul

Just unscrew everything. It's not going to go flying everywhere. Just unscrew the screws that are holding the stainless steel liners to the handles, the omega spring is held by two smaller holes, it's really easy. The most time consuming part is putting it back together. Make sure you make a note of the two different sizes of screws and you should be golden.

It's really really easy.

Thanks somber!!
I'll give it a try. I had almost all the screws out, but was concerned it would be a disaster if the springs flew out.

Not at all. You'll see, it's not a spring that has constant tension. Post some photos when it's done! I know I'd like to see it.

Got'er done!!
Thanks again somber!! You're right...easy as falling off a log!!
Took longer to get the bronze washers and the pivot hole in the blade lined up for the pin to go through than swapping all the other hardware.
I'll try to post a couple pictures tomorrow.

Paul

Yeah, I hate that part.

Usually I get the washers to stay to the blade with some oil and then just coast it in, nudging it slightly, once I can see it an opening inside the pivot area, I simply even it out and make sure it's centered.

Hey somber,

Here's a couple of pictures after the parts swapping.
My photograghy leaves a lot to be desired!!

Thanks again,
Paul

I wonder what it would look like if you polished the screws up, especially that pivot screw? As it stands, I think it looks really great - awesome job! It feels nice to know that you're knife is a little bit more unique, a little bit more 'yours' than the average, run-of-the-mill mini-grip.

edit: or even just a black paracord lanyard would be a nice contrast between the polished areas, the sand-colored handles, and the black screws.

Yeah, I agree. I wish the screws were polished. I think it would look even better. Maybe that'll be my next little project to make it a little more unique. I wonder if I could get some polished screws from Benchmade? I don't recall seeing any on the mini grips.

It's funny to read this thread just after reading another thread where the OP broke his scale in half due to the frustration of taking apart a BM Axis Lock. Glad you didn't have any trouble!
