Glad to be part of the forum, my first entry since I joined. I received my father's Schrade Walden paratrooper knife after 45 years of lusting after it. Nice part is he's still alive but wanted to share it. Nice condition but missing a bolster on one side. What's involved in finding replacement and installing it?

Thanks

B Watts

Your best chance is to find a parts knife they are virtually impossible to find. I mean what kind of a mental case wou have a set of 60 year old knife bolsters laying around . I am not a mechanic but it would seem they use 2 rivits somehow. Let me know how you make out. LT

Indeed, what kinda nut case would keep that kind of odd and end laying around.

I assume these will fit. Yours if you want them. The length of the flat 'base' is 3/4" Email me your address and I'll send them to you

Welcome to our forum, great of your Dad to share his knife with you.

Phil

Well Phil I guess that leaves me as the only nut left. I guess I do not have to send mine. Here is a pic which may help with installation. As you can see they fit right on those two top permanent rivits the bottom rivits are for the handle. LT

Keep yours, LT, you have more of a need for them than I do. I took apart a couple of these that were broken.. bad bad shape- in hopes the parts could be used by someone somewhere. LT, it looks like many of these knives used many of the same parts, is that correct?

LT, what does an unbroken spring look like for these things?

Phil (the other nut here)

Go to Ebay.com ( it is an auction site on the net.) go to KNIFE SPRINGS and there will appear not only these but the coil versions as well . Yup springs are fine the knives are fine but when you apply one to the other they become so evil that society must have laws to forbide there owner ship ( to gether that is, alone take em to Sunday school. Bolsters on the large hunters are pretty much interchangable on the Schrade Walden, Schrade Cuts and Prestos, and challenge ( flylock) as well of course of the contract versions LL Bean, Shapeigh ect. LT PS did you say keep mine or shove mine just a joke thankyou for picking up the ball as usual. That why you are the margarita moderator. I have a little present for you as well. I hope to get to it on the other thread eventually. Thanks again

LT,
It is funny that you should mention knives & Sunday School.
Back in the 1950s, when I was a sprout about 4 or 5 years old (circa 1955), I won a small pen knife at Sunday School for memorizing a Bible verse. Still have it in a box of old knives.

This just goes to show how the paranoia of our society has increased since then.
