Greetings!

I have not been here in ages! Hope you've all been well and hope there still the knowledge and opinions that I remember about this place.

I have some knives from different eras of my life, some have become harder to find (maybe even valuable). An old Case XX folder I got 41 years ago, a "Ted "Gator" Meyers fixed blade given to my father in person when we lived in the same village as "Gator", a B.M. 42, and (less ancient) a Colst Steel Recon Tanto that is made from Carbon V in the U.S. With the exception of the "Gator Meyers", they've been used (but not abused). I took a shine to the Cold Steel Drop Forged Boot Knife. I have a feeling this will be kind of like a Kershaw Trooper or Gerber MKI in a couple decades so I wanna buy TWO. One will get used, one will sit in a box untouched.

I have a chance to buy either: (1) The Taiwan made model in 52100 (2) The U.S. model made in 1075 Spring Steel.

I'm torn. I'd be all over the 52100 (my SWKW Waki is a laser) but I kind of like the idea of having another U.S. made Cold Steel, when my beard is longer. I mean - having that U.S. Recon Tanto feels great 👍 So... Steel or origin? What should I focus on for a "box away".

Thanks Folks

Well, it seems to me there's only one way out of this unpleasant situation... Buy 2 of each. 🤣

Or, buy one example of both, decide which you'd rather have, sell the one you don't like, and buy an extra of the one you decide to keep... There's no telling what the market for anything will be like down the line. 🤷‍♂️

Origin. Ten times out of ten.

Sorry man, but it's the Ulti-Clip that's made in America, not the knife.

That’s not to say they aren’t cool, or a good value, or you shouldn’t buy as many as you want, BTW. I just don’t think they’re going to have a whole lot of collector value down the road. I could be wrong. Wouldn’t be the first time.

One of the sharpest knives I ever got out of the box was one of the original DF boot knives with the silvery finish.

I feel like that is intentionally misleading.
If you read carefully , "for comprehension " , IMO , it's fairly straightforward . :)

With a bit of searching , it's pretty easy to find out where Cold Steel products are sourced .

They might highlight that the G-10 or steel is USA , but not like some makers that falsely claim "made in USA" because of minor assembly /finishing etc .

Blades are clearly marked with country of origin . Nothing USA , for many years , sad to say . :(

Regardless of your decision: welcome back to the neighborhood! 😁👍

Thanks, good 2B back 👍
