I just got the nicest new addition to my collection of five inch Pearl toothpicks. It's a bulldog, nothing real special, with the Longhorn etch. But on the reverse of the blade, near the tang,is fancy engraved:

CR 004

Any ideas what that is all about???

It would be nearly impossible to know what it means if anything coming from Parker. Probably a "limited" run or prototype...yeah right!!!

I am going to say a few words in defense of Jim Parker, who I consider a credit to the world of knives and a friend. Has anyone ever looked at the good things that he has done? It far outweighs whatever some see as his faults. He has survived and excelled in a very tough business. I have never heard of him forcing anybody to buy his knives from him. Do some research and see for yourself. If you are going to collect knives you have to know what you are buying. It is just that simple.

I have seen Jim Parker at a number of shows, and I've owned Bulldog knives...I was just fortunate that I was introduced to knife collecting by an HONEST dealer who told me the truth about collecting from the start. Selling knives that are "Factory Finds"
with the same names as highly collectable antique cutlery is an out and out fraud. I've never fallen for this, because I have done alot of homework. I'd be highly suspicious of any "Prototype" or numbered German knife...most of these knives were of decent quality or better and could have stood on that alone instead of misleading sales pitches.
