I need a fairly inexpensive camera to take pictures of my knives so I can post them, and sometimes sell them! :o
Here's my basic requirements:
1) Just has to be good enough for pictures of knives, I don't think I need a billion megapixels.
Good macro capability is a must for the close up shots.
2) the more inexpensive the better, but not a "cheap" piece of junk, I'd like it to last a while.
3) The less energy it uses the better! I'd like to have to NEVER replace the batteries. :D Ideally, I will be able to use it with an adapter, but when I can't, I'd really like the batteries to last.
Thanks for your help!
One more thing:
4) The simpler to use the better!

Some of the best knife pics I have seen on this site have been taken by Jill Jackson. I think from an earlier post, she uses a Canon Ixus camera.

Most cameras these days have very good full auto modes, so all you need to do is point and shoot. Most also come with a rechargeable lithium ion battery.

I'm an avid photographer with over $20G's invested in cameras and lenses. The camera I run to for quick and simple shots that look great is my little Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS3. It is a 10MP camera with 12x Wide Angle optical image stabilized zoom and 3 inch LCD. You can't beat it for the money. $255 at Amazon.com.

DMC-FS42 is a camera that I'm finding in the $115 range.
Would anyone like to commentabout this?
(Yes... I will look at online reviews also) ;)

DMC-FS12 OR FS15 seems to be better choices for a little more cash than the FS42. Again... any suggestions would be helpful! :)
Thanks.

Keep a few $$ in hand and get an inexpensive tripod. Makes a world of difference when shooting inanimate objects (knives in your case!)

How about a scanner?

I do use a scanner for knives more often than a camera. Doesn't work so well for larger objects, but for medium to small knives it works quite well, especially if you get some black velvet to lay over the knife to block out all light.

Thanks, I pulled up the Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS3 online and read some of the reviews. It seems like a really great camera, much better than my Cyber-shot. The fact that it's suppose to take low light pictures well would be a big improvement for me and probably help me to take much better knife pictures. I'm gonna have to think seriously about getting one.

I'd like to keep this under $200 if I can. I saw a DMC-FS25 for $175
* 12.1-megapixel resolution captures enough detail for poster-size prints
* 5x MEGA optical image-stabilized zoom; 29mm wide-angle Leica DC Vario-Elmar lens
* Intelligent Auto (iA) mode; Face Detection
* 3.0-inch LCD screen
* Capture images to SD/SDHC memory cards (not included)
So far.. this is the one that seems to be the very best bang for the buck.
