Need Coleman lantern help

I must be setting a record for new threads asking for help.

I recently picked up a Coleman 290 lantern, called the Powerhouse, for a decent price. Needed a new plunger and generator, but that's easy enough to do. Except for the generator. It takes a 290-5981 generator and I ordered one, but it won't fit. Compared to the clogged, worn out generator it came with, the new one is a lot longer and wider. To get the new generator to fit I'm going to need to file and widen the hole in the burner assembly. But I've honestly never done anything like this before, and I don't know if this is a bad idea waiting to happen, or if there are other alternatives available.

Seriously guys, this is out of my league. I don't know what to do when the required generator is larger than the lantern will allow for. Do I try a different generator, or file the hole in the burner assembly to open it up?

Are you positive you have the proper generator.

It's $11 at this link: http://www.oldcolemanparts.com/product.php?productid=240&cat=&page=2

Call OLDCOLEMANPARTS at 360-673-5555 before modifying any part of the lantern.

Picture positive.

Packaging back with Coleman company stamp

And the original and replacement generator demonstrating the size difference

Contact the company directly with photos and dimensions of the generator you want to replace. I suggest you don't modify the lantern. Molitov lanterns are no fun.

I would also call them. Moding a pressurized gas lantern is probably not a good idea.
