Need DC Controller

Ok you motor and controller experts out there, I need some basic help on selecting a controller.
I know it would be easier if I bought one new from a knife supplier, as they pretty much have chosen the right one, and the best one.
I am trying to dig one up used, but don't know exactly, or perhaps even generally what I am looking for. I was looking at the various kinds at the Minarik site, and kind of got lost.
I will hopefully be getting a used 1 1/2 to 2 HP DC Motor from a friend in a few months, but don't know what controller to look for as I search Ebay, second hand stores, used tool websites and talk to motor repair places near where I live. I assume I need to make sure the controller I get will handle the HP I have, and be 120/220 compatible, and I think it probably would need a heat sink, as well. And I probably want a box that is sealed or sealable (a NEMA 12 or 1, right?), but I am not sure what else. For instance I found a Minarik 20000 controller, but am not sure if it will work, and am not sure what to ask the salesperson to make sure it will work for me. Any hints on how I can find out about controllers made by manufacturers other than Minarik that would work just as well? It seems that Minarik is well respected by most makers I know; at least that is what they have on their machines. I haven't seen anyone use any other ones.
Anyway, I hope what I am asking makes some sense, if not just let me know and I will try and explain it better. I guess I am just not sure what I am looking for…
Thanks.

Wapiti,I am using Minarik Elect.,motor controls on my VS grinder applications.Mine are the #MM23201A,they feature reversing, dynamic braking,as well as the on/off,speed control etc.My enclosures are NEMA1 which is the most basic enclosure,I ran a bead of silicone around the top to seal it,been using it for several years with no problem, but I vacuum them off every day.The NEMA12 is a gasketed enclosure, great but expensive, also if you dont need the reverse feature,or the brake feature, you can save a few bucks that way.I am using a heat sink.Hope this helps a little.

Thanks for the reply, MJH.
I am mostly looking for just the variable speed, and don't have any real need for reverse or a brake, unless I find controller that has it for a great price, of course.
I think I will go with a NEMA 1, and just seal it myself.
Thanks for the link. I can't seem to get the search function to work, though. All I get is a blank page when I search. Have to keep trying at it.
Thanks.

Good luck in your search my friend. I am in the same boat. i got a great deal on three 2hp dc motors shunt wound. If I find a good deal I will let you know.

Hi Folks
I have 3 Minarik controllers.
They have been very good. two of them are 7 years old.
I blew one of them up rewiring a motor once.
They fixed it in ONE day and had it back to me. Get the heat sink for heavy use!
