Hi guys:D..I bought a micarta handle script tang mark 501 off the bay that was described as mint.It looks great except my feeling is that it's been tipped and fixed.I dont have a new one here, could someone measure theirs and let me know the length when open tip to bolster please?Mine is 2 5/8".To me it looks a bit too fat at the tip and a hair too much space at the tip end when laying inside the liners.I could be wrong and hope so because i've been trying to get one for a while. Also,I hate returning stuff. Thanks in advance.Seals

Seals,I would'nt be too hasty. As I've seen lots of Buck knives shorter than the stated length and were not reworked. One can tell quickly w/ a picture and the point shape.DM

David's more than likely right. I just dug out my old script micarta 501 and it's blade is about 1/16" shorter than the newer one I measured earlier. That would put yours about the same as my old one.

Seals,Please translate "hinky" for me as I did not find it in Webster's Dictionary.DM

Where you from?

See how the edge bevel is wider at the tip and kind of blunt?Or ya'll think it's good?

Seals,It does look reprofiled and not a crisp job.But then not present were something I thought I'd see.Like blade scratches. The tip wasn't done quite correct.More amateur.
I'm from TX. and have not heard that word but down there they use lots of words you never hear anywhere else. When we go visit my family I have to translate for my wife.
Nice job on the photos.DM

Exactly as i thought.I could make it look better by taking it a little thinner, but it'd still be short.Guess i'll have to return it as i paid pretty good money for it.As for the word hinky,I dont think ive ever used it either,it just popped into my head and i said it.One of my many faults im afraid. Thanks David.

Seals,No need for blame.I'm trying to learn, here.Buck always takes their edge bevel all the way to the tip and its usually very uniform.DM
