Need EDC fixed blade

I am looking for a recommendation for which high quality knife to purchase. I am having trouble finding the specs for many models of the Busse, Swamp Rat, etc.

I am looking for a mid to light weight EDC fixed blade which can be worn horizontally and will be used for daily camp tasks such as cleaning, preparing, cooking game and other food as well as other light camp chores such as slicing/carving and only used for heavy work during emergency situations. I’m thinking something in the 8 inch total size range, ~4 inch blade preferred, ~8 oz, ~.2 inch blade thickness. I'd also really like at least two lanyard holes - one forward and one rear.

What do you recommend that will meet this criteria? Or is this a wish list and I'm dreaming - I should go completely custom?

These are all close:
(Almost the perfect size)
Fallkniven F1

Bark River Fox River

Bark River Bravo Necker 2

(I really, really like the design of this! If I were to draw up exactly what I want it would be this with a wee bit longer blade. I like the holes in the handle but wish it had a full cut out choil or no choil at all - the small choil seems worthless.)
Busse SAR3

(This is really close as well but I wish the handle were drilled like the Busse.)

What about Swamp Rat or Scrap Yard?
The Swamp Rat Howling Rat LM(HRLM) looks like it is too big by an inch or so for horizontal carry. (Am I wrong here?)

This is really close on size. I like the design, the choil, the gimping, but don't like the steel at all. I'd really prefer an S30V. I also like the removable scales.

Thoughts?

Thank you in advance!

there's a Dozier or two available in the custom knives for sale forum in the classifieds. One of them looks very similar to the Fallkniven F1, (my personal favourite).
Happy hunting!

well, we're gettin into production knife territory here, and you'd probably have better luck finding useful information in a different forum for those knives.
Most of us like talking about one off/of knives made mostly by one individual, so threads which are about production/factory stuff quickly sinks into the archives.
There are lots of guys though that make killer knives that can go toe to toe with those production units and then kick their ass. The cost might be a bit higher initially but I personally feel it's worth the extra expense, bein a guy who uses his custom knives.

I keep finding more production or quasi-production knives that are close to what I'm looking for (I had no idea there were so many good, high-end makers!). I'll add them to the OP. I'd rather go production as I am more likely to find stock sheaths and support for them but am willing to go custom and pay the price if that's what it takes to get what I want.

The F-1 is a bit big for EDC, especially if you're required to concealed carry. Check out the DPx HEST, the Swamp Rat Warden, Becker Bk11, RKK Snitch and Buck Paklite Skinner.

I think you should also consider the light and very practical Spyderco Moran. It quickly became one of my fave fixed blades during the last holiday. It's also nicely affordable!

Thanks for the recommendation. I haven't looked at Spyderco in years - although my previous experience with them was positive.

The Spyderco Bill Moran Drop Point has just the right measurements but I really don't like that handle.

You'd have go for a Busse to get that. What do you need the forward lanyard hole for? D-guard? On a 3-4" knife? Or you just like the looks of it?

Fallkniven F1 sheath won't be good for horizontal carry. You will have to get another sheath (~$30-$60 extra).

BRKT Fox River's leather sheath can be used in horizontal carry with the addition of 2 leather or nylon straps (maybe even paracord) fastened to existing grommets.

BRKT Necker 2 comes with kydex and would be the best to horizontal setup. You could attach paracord, straps, belt loop or a Tek-loc for your preferred carry method.

ESEE 3 also comes with kydex and is also easy to setup for horizontal carry.

All Busse family knives (Swamprat, Scrapyard) do not come with a sheath. You will have to buy one separately ($30-$60 extra). It probably will be kydex and easy to setup horizontally.

I'm really looking for an everyday-not-on-concrete-carry. Do you think the F1 is too large for outdoor EDC? I am looking more and more at the neck knives though... particularly the SW Warden and BarkRiver Bravo Necker 2. I don't like the finger groves on the Snitch as it makes inverted holding (while skinning for example) difficult.

Even though it is a bit irrational and very unlikely to actually occur it seems like it would help if I ever had to lash the knife to something. Actually... just typing that makes me feel sorta silly. But I did find many of the Bark River knives have optional hollow handle bolts.

I don't mind buying and after market or even custom sheath if it is for a knife I will use extensively and plan on keeping for a long time (and if it wasn't I wouldn't bother the good folks here by asking!).

Thanks again!

Oh, like a trail companion blade? The F1 would do great. Check out the
Howling Rat in that case. And to answer someone else's question, I DO carry it horizontally, and LOVE it. It's overall length is not much more than an RC3 but the Howling Rat's handle is so much nicer! I simply love this blade. Comes with about a 60 degree inclusive angle, that shaves-if you can believe that. I thinned mine down to 30 degrees inclusive. Boy is that steel tough. Not comparable to anything I've used before. You can get a companion trail knife and a 15 dollar Paklite Skinner... man I love this little blade, it's in my pocket as we speak. Very clean, very comfortable, durable... great knife.
