hey guys, i recently just purchased my first quality knife (bm 950-1 rift) and im addicted!

so im going back up to kittery trading post (they have a knife section the size of my house) to buy my second knife tomorrow...

i want a folder, with a nice blade on it, NO SERRATIONS, NO ASSISTED OPENING!

my price limit is probably $175, but i may go up to 200 if its something worth it.

i was thinking a 710 mchenry but it doesnt have to be a benchmade product.

this should be a fun thread for you guys to try to convince me!

it would be so helpful if you posted pics of the knives your talking about!!!!

:D:D:D

Do you have any preferences about things like blade length/shape, locking mechanism, or handle material?

nope im open to anything... preferably something popular that they will probably have in stock

ill probably be using it for EDC for a while, so i dont want some painted handle that will chip or anything...

oh and not really into smaller knives

Buy a Spyderco Military. Hold the knife in your hand and that will be all the convincing you need. Trust me.

also need to be tight, blade play is a big deal to me... my 950 has NONE

im going on spyderco's website right now

i called and the guy said he sold his last one today in black/g10 with the plain blade.. he has 2 more on order... bummer because tomorrow is really the only day i can go up there.

they sell it for $159.99

what are the most popular benchmade folders??

These are my two favs right now. The Kershaw is AO, but the Spyderco is a Lum Chinese Carbon Fiber.

that spyderco is sharp looking... the military seems too big for me, i saw it next to a 710 and i was like holy crap...

is there a similar spyderco knife to the military thats a little smaller?

X2 on the 710. A bone collector is a good choice too. Also check out the spyderco manix 2

I think the BM large Bone Collector is a real hidden gem. I have one and it is the best feeling Axis Lock folder I've ever felt. Don't be fooled by the 3.36" blade and think this is a small knife. It is anything but small. The blade at .125" has the full thickness throughout just until the last 1/4" or so does it taper. Anyone that has read a post by me must surely know that I like thick blades, and that I don't consider .125" really thick. Even knowing this the first time I saw the BC's blade I thought that BM must have had a misprint as it just looked thicker than 1/8". The handles are the great feature as they are hand filling and just plain feel good and fit the hands contours.

Check one out as you might find you really like it.

Just a stock pic;

for a lightweight slicer & cutter i would go with the spydie endura in ffg. either vg10 or zdp189 will make you happy. the b.m. 710 is a twin in many ways however the construction is much stouter. really i prefer the endura over the millie for straight cutting, but the millie has more strength but with a blade only about 1/4 in. longer.--dennis

So much choice there! BM 710 is a great knife. And the Spyderco Bob Lum Chinese Folder is also one of the best - I just love it. It is not big, rather on the small side. The blade is quite delicate - just keep it in mind. I also agree with cutter17 about Bone Collector - it is like BM 520 with its strength and reliability but lighter and with "bigger" blade. And the steel is quite good too. So if you need the second Rift - that would be a good choice.
Endura is very good knife for carry, and in combination with zdp-189 it is a great knife!
I would also recommend BM 913 Striker - but considering that you are not into AO we can sure pass that.

Buy one of the Lone Wolf Paul knives (since BM bought the Lone Wolf knives they might be sold under Benchmade brand already).

I love my 710-D2 and can easily recommend that one.

I also got the Zero Tolerance ZT0551 back in December and highly recommend that fantastic Hinderer/ZT collaboration folder.

I'm also looking at the Spyderco Paramilitary 2 for my next purchase. Check that one out.
